The British daily Telegraph reported on the 11th (local time) that the leaders of Germany, France and Russia have agreed to hold a summit to discuss the dispute over the eastern part of Ukraine.

It is reported that the three heads of state reached an agreement on these details in a phone call the day before.

French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel have instructed their foreign ministers to hold a multilateral meeting, including Russia, to discuss disputes in Donetsk and Lugansk in eastern Ukraine, according to reports.

The conference will be held in the format of 'Normandy 4' with the participation of Russian and Ukrainian working groups under the mediation of France and Germany.

Citing a statement from the Kremlin, the media also reported that President Macron, Chancellor Merkel, and Russian President Vladimir Putin also agreed to hold a summit meeting.

Pro-Russian residents of Ukraine's Donetsk and Lugansk regions rebelled against the central government when Russia annexed Crimea, which belonged to Ukraine, in March 2014.

In addition, Russian-backed separatists have been engaged in sporadic engagements with government forces until recently, killing about 13,000 people in the process.

In particular, tensions between government forces and rebels are rising as Russian troops deployed to the Ukraine border in Crimea last March and April.

In the case of the European Union (EU), Russia's annexation of Crimea is illegal, and sanctions have been imposed on Russia several times.

In the midst of this, France and Germany have been playing the role of mediators in disputes in eastern Ukraine since 2015.

However, prices stabilized again after Russian President Putin announced that he would increase gas supplies to Europe.

In addition, Russia's ambassador to the EU, Vladimir Tszov, recently urged improvement in relations with Russia to address the natural gas shortage.

"If the EU stops treating Russia as an enemy, gas supplies could increase," he told the Financial Times.
