CNBC reported on the 6th (local time) that the average consumer price of gasoline in the United States rose to the highest level in seven years due to the effect of rising international oil prices.
According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), the average consumer price of gasoline in the United States was $3.22 per gallon (about KRW 1,020 per liter), the highest since October 2014.
The average price of gasoline in California was $4.42 per gallon, especially in Mono County, California, where it exceeded $5 per gallon.
Experts said that as international oil prices continued to rise, gasoline prices were also rising.
The price of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil, which stood at $40 a barrel a year ago, once surpassed $79 a barrel for the first time since November 2014.
However, WTI price turned to decline after five trading days, closing at $77.43 per barrel, down 1.5% from the previous day on news of an increase in US crude inventories.
Meanwhile, U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said on the same day that she was considering the release of Strategic Reserve Oil (SPR) as a way to calm the rise in gasoline prices.
He also said he could consider a ban on crude oil exports to allay concerns about oil supply insecurity, Fox Business reported.
