The US State Department said on the 27th (local time) that it condemned North Korea for firing a projectile believed to be a short-range missile, but urged North Korea to engage in dialogue in the context of a diplomatic solution.

"The United States condemns North Korea's missile launch," the State Department said in a statement.

"The launch violates a number of UN Security Council resolutions," the State Department said in a statement.

"We are committed to a diplomatic approach with North Korea, and we urge them to engage in dialogue," he added.

The part that the State Department designated as a violation of the UN Security Council resolution raises the interpretation that the short-range missile launched by North Korea today is a ballistic missile banned by the Security Council resolution.

The State Department issued a statement to the same effect on the 15th when North Korea fired two short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea.

While this condemns North Korea's missile launch, the US seems to have maintained the principle of urging North Korea to respond to dialogue as the US is pursuing dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue.

The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff said on the 28th, South Korean time, "The military detected a projectile presumed to be a short-range missile launched eastward from the Mupyeong-ri area in Jagang Province, North Korea around 6:40 a.m. today."
