Israeli Prime Minister Naphthali Benet expressed strong concerns about Iran's nuclear program and expressed his intention not to tolerate the manufacture of nuclear weapons in his first speech at the UN General Assembly since taking office.
In a speech at the UN General Assembly in New York on the 27th (local time), Prime Minister Benet said, "The Iranian nuclear program has reached a watershed and so has our patience. Words cannot stop the operation of the centrifuge, he said, urging the international community to act.
He also said, "Iran's nuclear program is at a critical point beyond all limits. We will not allow Iran to get its hands on nuclear weapons, he said, hinting at the possibility of its own actions to prevent the development of nuclear weapons.
In 2018, when former President Donald Trump was in office, the U.S. unilaterally withdrew from the nuclear agreement (JCPOA) signed by five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council (the U.S., Britain, France, Russia, China) and Germany with Iran.
Since then, Iran has been gradually increasing the concentration of uranium, and Israel has argued that Iran is close to manufacturing nuclear weapons.
Iran has met with Russia, China, France, the UK and Germany in Vienna, Austria, since early April to negotiate the restoration of the nuclear agreement, but negotiations have been temporarily suspended since June.
Meanwhile, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) evaluated in a report last month that Iran has made progress in enriching metal uranium that could potentially be used for nuclear weapons.
Israel, the only unofficial nuclear powerhouse in the Middle East, has been sensitive to Iran's nuclear activities and has been hitting Iran's nuclear facilities through a so-called "shadow war" in which no attackers are revealed.
Prime Minister Benet also strongly criticized the situation in which Iran supports forces against Israel, including Hezbola, Lebanon's armed faction, Syria's Bashar Al-Asad regime, and Palestine's armed faction Hamas.
"Iran has spread slaughter and destruction in Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, Yemen and the Gaja district in the Middle East over the past 30 years," he said.
Prime Minister Benet, in particular, referred to current Iranian President Evrahim Raishi as a "butcher in Tehran" who committed political oppression in the past, adding that Iran is arming and supporting Israeli enemies.
